Though our estate vineyard shares the same soil as the SLH AVA- Arroyo Gravelly Loam and Hanford Gravelly Sandy Loam- its slightly lower altitude gives it a unique microclimate with cooler nights and warmer days. Deep and dense, the 2018 San Saba Pinot Noir has aromas of spice box that join Gala apple peel and minerals on the nose. This rich Pinot Noir has layers of spice, blackberry fruit and cherry cola along with a pleasing earthiness and acidity that move effortlessly into a persistent spice/potpourri finish.
94pts "purely domestic wine report"
Our Estate San Saba Vineyard is sheltered in a nook just below the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA, roughly 25 miles southeast of the town of Monterey. Our climate is heavily influenced by the morning fog and afternoon winds from the nearby Pacific Ocean. This is a cool site with little rainfall and one of the longest growing seasons in the world. Our unusual climate allows us to produce ripe, concentrated wines of exceptional balance.
Selected barrels from all six clones planted in our estate vineyard: 32%-clone 828, 21% Pommard 4, 18%- 667, 15%- 777, 12%- 115 and 3% Swan
