Father Tondré and son Joe Alarid, both steeped in California’s agricultural history, founded Tondré Wines with the vision to produce a limited production, world-class Pinot Noir from their vineyard, Tondré Grapefield. Tondré Grapefield was planted in 1997 on six and half acres in the heart of the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation. It now has seven blocks for an accumulation of one hundred acres dedicated to Pinot Noir grape vines. Tondré Grapefield earned its Sustainable Certification (SIP) in 2015.
Equal parts Pommard 4, 115 and 777 clones ... Hand harvested and hand sorted, the grapes are cold soaked for three days before inoculation. Clonal lots are kept separated in small open-top bins during fermentation and 20% percent of the bins go through whole cluster fermentation. Close monitoring ensures that production stages are implemented at optimal periods. The young wine is racked into an assortment of barrels, only French oak/ 20% new, from various tonnelleries for added complexity. This wine was barrel aged for 10 months before filtering, bottling and laying down for another 12 months of bottle aging before release.
