Aromas of blackberries and cherry cola join undertones of menthol and wild herbs. This blends with flavors of black cherry, vanilla and an earthy element that merge into a long, structured finish with lots of dark fruit.
KW Ranch Pinot Noir 2019 comes from the lower slopes of the Santa Lucia Highlands, along the eastern edge of the appellation. Its lower altitude and facing give its vines a bit more protection from the winds and the resulting fruit has time to develop complex flavors (red licorice, black cherry, vanilla) with classic Santa Lucia Highlands' bright acidity and an earthy element that knit everything together into a long, finish with lots of dark fruit. Although delicious now, this wine will peak after 2024.
KW Ranch is located in the heart of the Santa Lucia Highlands, southeast of McIntyre Vineyard and just northwest of Gary’s Vineyard. Planted to both Pinot Noir and Syrah in 2000 by Kirk Williams, the site features a well-exposed, gently-rolling hillside with gravely loam soils. Wines from KW Ranch tend to be intense and highly aromatic.
