Though our estate vineyard shares the same soil as the SLH AVA- Arroyo Gravelly Loam and Hanford Gravelly Sandy Loam- its slightly lower altitude gives it a unique microclimate with cooler nights and warmer days.  This helps our grapes develop a spicy character along with its dark fruit. The resulting wine has aromas of spice box, Gala apple peel and minerals that enhance its flavors of more spice, blackberry fruit, cherry cola undertones and a hint of earthiness.  The cooler nights allow the grapes to retain their acidity which keeps flavors beautifully balanced.

Vineyard Notes
Our Estate San Saba Vineyard is sheltered in a nook just below the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA, roughly 25 miles southeast of the town of Monterey. Our climate is heavily influenced by the morning fog and afternoon winds from the nearby Pacific Ocean. This is a cool site with little rainfall and one of the longest growing seasons in the world. Our unusual climate allows us to produce ripe, concentrated wines of exceptional balance.
